The Haybridge Offer
Programme of Study
At Haybridge Sixth Form, all students follow a programme of study that is tailored to their individual needs and aspirations. All students choose at least three A Level (or equivalent) subjects and some students elect to take four subjects if this is deemed suitable. Our collaboration with King Charles I School and Hagley Catholic High School means that we are able offer a wide range of applied and academic courses to our students.
Sixth Form study programmes also include a substantial amount of non-qualification activity, including daily academic tutoring sessions, a weekly briefing, and a two-hour weekly Prep session. Students are also supported to complete a minimum of 20 hours of work experience and employability skills. Alongside this, students are encouraged to take part in a range of activities which complement the qualification elements of their study programme and supports applications for higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Students can undertake a wide range of accredited and non-accredited enrichment activities, including the Level 3 EPQ, DofE Gold Award, online Future Learn courses, debating, charity and volunteer work.
We provide an ongoing programme of work-related opportunities designed to support students in planning their next steps post-18. This includes our Careers Fair, industry-specific career talks, Higher Education briefings and university masterclasses. Students also have a careers discussions throughout Years 12 and 13 as well as the support of our careers advisor. All students take part in a week-long work experience placement in Year 12 in order to help better prepare them for the world of work.
As a school, we are constantly reviewing and evaluating our programme of study to ensure that it meets the needs of our students. Our goal is to ensure that all students leave Sixth Form with not only the qualifications that they need progress to the next stage, but also the information they need to make informed decisions about their future.
Enrichment
Studying for your A levels will keep you busy, so why spend time on enrichment? The answer is simple: it’s an essential part of Sixth Form life. This is how you widen your horizons and take the opportunity to learn more about your individual strengths and skill sets, as well as pushing yourself by trying something new and contributing to society.
Everybody in our Sixth Form can get involved as there’s something for everyone – let us tell you about some of the different options available to you.
The Early Applicants' Programme
The Early Applicants’ Programme has been developed to inspire and prepare students for entry to and study at the most competitive universities. Many students will join our Sixth Form with the stated aim of applying to Oxford or Cambridge, Russell Group universities, medical, veterinary or law schools. These institutions demand the highest academic achievement with a range of experiences to evince a student’s passion for their chosen area of study.
For all of these students, the Early Applicants’ Programme is a series of steps created to nurture and guide our gifted and talented students through their Sixth Form experience.
All students whose GCSE results indicate they have the potential will be invited to join the Early Applicants’ Programme early in Year 12 and can expect us to provide:
- access to local and national masterclasses and Summer schools, with expert visiting speakers.
- academic teaching from staff who have studied at these universities, many of whom have gained Masters and/or Doctorates, who will also provide support for academic extension and enrichment.
- guidance through interactive monthly Early Applicants’ Programme tutorials, when students explore how to further develop their portfolio of experience and subject extension.
- one-to-one support from our Higher Education Consultant and specialist academic/admissions staff, who coach students through the application and interview processes, including pre-application tests.
- an enrichment programme to stimulate and develop our students’ understanding of world affairs, broadening their horizons and developing their confidence for the competitive application process.
- bespoke tutorship for the Extended Project Qualification, recognised by Oxford, Cambridge and the most competitive universities, which offers students the opportunity to evidence their critical thinking, research skills and extended knowledge in their area of interest.
Beyond the highest level of academic achievement, these universities will test a student’s ability to think laterally and logically. Students joining the Early Applicants’ Programme are expected to engage with all of the above as motivated, enquiring and hardworking young adults, playing a full part in the life of our Sixth Form.
