Haybridge is open today Wednesday 20th November for all year groups.

Students and staff must take great care when making their way to school as after the recent snowfall roads and pavements may be a cause for concern and should only be travelled if families and individuals consider it safe to do so in their particular circumstances.

Please report any absences in the usual way.

Our last communication from the school transport companies suggested that they are running a normal service and they have yet to make us aware of any changes or cancellation to services.

CURRICULUM CATCH-UP

English πŸ“š πŸ–‹οΈ

Our English curriculum is full and diverse, offering students a joyful journey through rich texts, vibrant voices and endlessly inspiring stories.

Year 7 are currently exploring our Flights of Fantasy unit, where they dive into Greek myths, explore imaginative worlds and learn how writers bring magical ideas to life.

Year 8 have been uncovering clues and analysing how writers build suspense and tension in our Whodunnit unit of learning.

Year 9 students are studying β€˜Of Mice and Men’, exploring Steinbeck’s powerful themes of friendship, hope and the harsh realities of the American Dream.

Year 10 have made an excellent start to the GCSE English course and their first Literature unit has been Priestley’s β€˜An Inspector Calls’. They have been particularly focusing on Priestley’s intended messages and the lessons he wanted to teach audiences.

Year 11 have been studying β€˜the Scottish play’ this term and exploring Shakespeare’s dark portrayal of ambition, power and the consequences of moral corruption in β€˜Macbeth’. They have also been working hard in preparing for their upcoming English mock exams and we wish them the best of luck!

Our A Level students A Level English Literature students are studying β€˜Othello’, a broad selection of poetry, Zora Neale Hurston’s β€˜Sweat’, and Mary Shelley’s β€˜Frankenstein’, analysing how each text presents compelling themes of power, identity, and the consequences of human ambition.

Thank you to Miss Clews for showing such a lovely day spent in the English department!
