Transition from Year 6 to Year 7

A community that encourages every student to belong, believe and become their very best.
Welcome to Haybridge High School and Sixth Form.
Starting secondary school is an exciting milestone, and we are delighted that you will soon be joining our Haybridge family. We look forward to meeting you at our New Intake Day in July and officially welcoming you through our doors in September.
The next seven years will be filled with opportunities to learn, grow and discover who you are. At Haybridge, we want every student to feel a genuine sense of belonging, to develop the confidence to believe in themselves and to leave us ready to make a positive difference in the world.
Everything we do is guided by our core values of Ambition, Commitment, Creativity and Integrity. These values shape not only academic success, but also the character, resilience and confidence that will help you thrive long after you leave school.
You can expect a warm and supportive environment where high expectations go hand in hand with care and encouragement. We will challenge you to aim high, work hard and embrace every opportunity, because we believe in your potential and want you to achieve more than you ever thought possible.
In return, we promise an ambitious curriculum taught by expert teachers, a wealth of opportunities outside of the classroom through our Character Academy provision, and a community that will support you every step of the way. Whether in the classroom, on the stage, on the sports field or through leadership and enrichment activities, there will be countless opportunities for you to discover your talents and develop your passions.
We cannot wait to see the contribution you will make to our school community and the person you will become during your time at Haybridge.
Our Year 7 Induction Day is Tuesday 1st September 2026. The day starts at 8:45am and ends at 3:15pm.
Students will also have the opportunity to attend a New Intake Day in July, where they will spend the day at Haybridge and meet some of their teachers, their Head of Year and pastoral staff.

Starting secondary school is an exciting adventure. Every day at Haybridge brings new opportunities to learn, make friends, discover your interests and become part of our school community. Here’s what a typical day might look like for a Year 7 student.
Before School
If you arrive early, breakfast is available to purchase in the canteen before the school day begins.
8:50am – Line Up
At 8:50am, Year 7 students line up with their tutor groups on the tennis courts. Your tutor will take the register and share any important information for the day. Your Head of Year may also read out notices, celebrate achievements and give reminders about upcoming events.
Tutor Time
After line up, students head to tutor time. Activities vary throughout the week and may include reading, citizenship, assemblies, House competitions and quizzes, or other personal development activities.
Some extracurricular clubs also take place during tutor time. Students involved in activities such as Music Clubs, Eco Club, Kindness Ambassadors or Forensics Club will be registered there instead.
9:20am – Period 1
Your first lesson of the day begins. You will start to become familiar with moving around the school and following your timetable independently.
10:20am – Period 2
Time for your second lesson before a well-earned break.
11:20am – Morning Break
Break time lasts 20 minutes and gives you the opportunity to buy a snack from the canteen, use the toilets, spend time with friends and enjoy some fresh air.
11:40am – Period 3
When the whistle sounds, students make their way to their third lesson of the day.
12:40pm – Lunch
Lunch is a chance to relax, recharge and socialise with friends. You can purchase food from the canteen, eat with friends and enjoy time outside. During the summer months, the school field is often open for activities such as football and other games.
1:15pm – Period 4
Another whistle signals the start of Period 4.
2:15pm – Period 5
Your final lesson of the day begins.
3:15pm – End of the School Day
At the end of the school day, students travel home by walking, bus, train or being collected by family members.
Many students also choose to stay after school to take part in one of the many extracurricular activities available. From sport and music to technology and the arts, there is something for everyone. Popular clubs include netball, rounders, Lego Robotics, Art Club and Warhammer, alongside many other opportunities throughout the year.
More Than Just a School Day
Life at Haybridge is about much more than lessons. Every day is an opportunity to learn something new, build friendships, develop confidence and discover your strengths. Through our values of Ambition, Commitment, Creativity and Integrity, we encourage every student to belong, believe and become their very best.
The vast majority of our students either walk, take the school bus or catch the train to school. It is you and your parents/carers responsibility to make travel arrangements to and from school, and more information about transport can be found here.
It is important that you practise this travel where possible so that you are familiar with the routine ahead of your start in September. That might involve catching the train early in the morning during the summer holidays, or timing your walk from home to the bus stop to make sure you are on time every day. Remember – you need to be on site by 8.45am every morning!

Frequently Asked Questions
When will my child find out which tutor group they are in?
Tutor group information will be shared with students and parents on transition day. We carefully consider a range of factors when placing students to ensure they have the best possible start to secondary school.
Will my child be with their friends?
We aim to ensure that every student has at least one familiar peer in their tutor group where possible. However, students will quickly make new friends through lessons, tutor time and extracurricular activities.
What if my child is feeling nervous about starting secondary school?
Feeling nervous is completely normal. We provide a comprehensive transition programme, including transition events, tutor support and opportunities for students to ask questions before they start. Our staff are experienced in helping students settle in quickly and confidently.
How will the school support my child’s wellbeing?
Student wellbeing is a key priority. Every student belongs to a tutor group and a Head of Year who will support them throughout their time at school. We also offer additional pastoral support from different experienced members of the pastoral team where needed.
What should my child do if they get lost?
Staff are always available to help. During the first few weeks, students are given plenty of support to learn their way around the site, and getting lost occasionally is a normal part of the transition process. Our older students are readily available to help our younger students find their way around school.
How will my child know where to go for lessons?
Students receive a timetable and are shown how to read it. During the induction process, they will have opportunities to familiarise themselves with key areas of the school.
What equipment does my child need?
Students should bring the required equipment each day to ensure they are ready to learn.
- 2 x black or blue pens
- A whiteboard pen
- Green pen
- Pencil
- Pencil sharpener
- Ruler
- Eraser
- Glue stick
- Calculator
- Highlighters
- Tutor reads book
- A water bottle with a sports cap
Some subjects will also require students to bring specific equipment to their lessons:
- An apron as necessary for art lessons (an old long-sleeved shirt is fine to use) and an apron for food lessons;
- A set of drawing pencils to include HB, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, 6B, and a set of colouring pencils; and
- The school PE kit on the days you have PE. This must be the school approved PE kit only.
How can I contact the school if I have a question?
Parents and carers can contact the school office via email office@haybridge.worcs.sch.uk or telephone 01562 886213.
What happens on the first day?
Students will be welcomed by staff and their tutor group, receive important information, and be supported throughout the day to help them settle into school life.
How can I help my child prepare for secondary school?
Encourage your child to talk about any questions or concerns they may have, practise organisational skills such as packing their bag, and discuss positive ways to manage any worries about the move to secondary school.
Can my child bring a mobile phone to school?
Students may bring a mobile phone to school; however, it must be switched off and stored away during the school day unless a member of staff gives permission for it to be used. Full details can be found in our Mobile Phone Policy.
What happens if my child forgets their lunch, equipment or PE kit?
We understand that everyone forgets things from time to time. If your child forgets their lunch, equipment or PE kit, staff will support them and explain any next steps. We encourage students to develop good organisational habits, but occasional mistakes are a normal part of learning and becoming more independent.
How are friendships supported if my child doesn’t know anyone?
Many students join us without knowing others in their tutor group, and this can feel daunting at first. Through tutor activities, lessons, enrichment opportunities and transition events, students quickly get to know their peers. Staff also keep a close eye on students during the first few weeks and are always available to provide support if needed.
How do I report an absence?
If your child is unable to attend school, please contact the Attendance Team as soon as possible on the first day of absence. Details of how to report an absence can be found on our website and in the Parent Handbook.
How will the school communicate with parents and carers?
We communicate with parents and carers through email, our parent app/portal, text messages and the school website. Regular updates, newsletters and important information will be shared throughout the year to help you stay informed about school life.
